The business cycle

The FJMC holds four regular business meetings each year, for discussion, decisions and planning. The cycle is designed so the committee talks regularly with its co-management partners.

April: start of the fiscal year

  • Review operating and program budgets for the year ahead and adjust them to support priorities.
  • Review full research proposals and finalize research funding.

June: community tour

  • The FJMC travels to three ISR communities each year to meet the local HTC about fish and marine mammal management.
  • HTC concerns and feedback are recorded and shape the FJMC's priority list for the next year.

September or October: HTC Presidents

  • The FJMC and Inuvialuit HTC Presidents meeting: each HTC's concerns and priorities for fish and marine mammals.
  • Feedback from this meeting, the June tour and other contact with HTCs goes into the annual research priority list, which is shared with DFO and other researchers.

January: Winnipeg

  • Held at DFO's Freshwater Institute so the FJMC can meet DFO staff, with research and monitoring presentations through the week.
  • Review short proposals and make preliminary decisions on IFA implementation and MPA funding.
  • Western Arctic Marine Protected Areas (WAMPA) Steering Committee meeting.

Meeting dates

Dates for the current year are not yet published online. Please call the FJMC office in Inuvik at (867) 777-2828 to ask about upcoming meetings, or about raising an issue with the committee.

On a live site, this is where each meeting's date, place and summary would be listed, kept up to date by FJMC staff.
